O’Brien, Winifred

Winifred O’Brien, daughter of John O’Brien and Mary Carroll, was born on July 28, 1882 at 36 Wellington Street, Millom, in the registration district of Bootle in the County of Cumberland, England.   She is listed as Winifred Brian on her birth certificate but used the name O’Brien in documents in the US.  Her passport application lists her birth date as June 21, 1882.

She emigrated to Philadelphia, PA in 1910 and married Patrick McCann on April 27, 1910 in Philadelphia, PA.  The ship’s manifest (SS Friesland) for immigration to US lists her nearest relative as her mother “Mrs. O’Brien” Steelgreen, Millom.  It also states that she is coming to join a relative (cousin), Miss Sarah McCann, 127 W. Fischers Lane, Olney, Philadelphia”.  The document describes her as 5’6″ medium complexion, brown hair, blue eyes – born in Millom, England.

She died on May 5, 1970 in Havertown, PA and is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.
